To hire a hardware engineer in Saudi Arabia, start with accreditation and quotas rather than sourcing. Engineering professions usually need Saudi Council of Engineers accreditation, Nitaqat quotas shape the mix of Saudi and expatriate hires, and the national push to localise industry has created strong demand for people who can design and test real products.
Demand comes from energy and petrochemical groups, the electricity utility, telecom operators and their suppliers, defence-industry localisation programmes, industrial and automation firms, and the manufacturers moving into industrial cities as part of national localisation targets. Experienced Saudi engineers are the most contested profile at every level, because quota rules make them valuable to all employers at once, and expatriate designers with certified product experience are scarce and highly valued.
Look for board design in Altium or Cadence, power electronics, embedded firmware on ARM microcontrollers, industrial communication protocols and EMC testing. Experience of working to recognised product standards is valuable, because exports and public-sector buyers expect conformity documentation. For Saudi graduates, check hands-on lab and internship exposure, and plan mentoring from experienced designers.

Engineering professions usually do. Start accreditation as soon as the offer is accepted, and add one to three weeks to the plan where it applies.
Plan for three to five weeks to an accepted offer, then a notice period commonly of 30 to 60 days. Relocating hires add accreditation and four to eight weeks for visa and Iqama.
It depends on your Nitaqat position. Many employers run both tracks, using Saudi hires to meet quotas and expatriates for scarce senior design skills.
HRDF programmes can support the hiring and training of Saudi nationals, which can offset some cost on the national track. Check eligibility for your programme.
