How it works

Share the brief

Tell us the role, the must-haves and the budget. We turn that into a scorecard your interviewers actually use.

Get a shortlist

Candidates are screened against the scorecard rather than keyword-matched, so every profile is worth your time.

Interview with structure

Same questions, same rubric, every candidate. Scheduling, panels and scoring all run in one place.

Make the offer

Compare scored candidates side by side, then track the offer through acceptance to the agreed start date.

About the role

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the general ledger and post journal entries
  • Run the month-end and year-end close, including accruals and prepayments
  • Reconcile bank, receivable and payable accounts
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and variance commentary
  • Support the annual audit and prepare requested schedules
  • Prepare and file VAT or other indirect tax returns
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and depreciation schedules
  • Improve controls and month-end process documentation

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field
  • Three or more years in a similar role
  • Working knowledge of IFRS or the local reporting standard
  • Strong spreadsheet skills and experience with an accounting system such as NetSuite, Xero, QuickBooks or SAP
  • Professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CA or CMA, or actively studying toward one

Source and shortlist

Qualified accountants cluster in a few reliable places, and the mix matters more than the volume.

  • Professional bodies: ACCA, CPA, CA and CMA member directories and job boards, which pre-filter for qualification
  • LinkedIn: search by qualification plus system experience rather than job title alone, since titles vary widely between companies
  • Audit firm alumni: candidates leaving Big Four or mid-tier audit practices bring strong technical grounding and are usually looking around the two-to-four year mark
  • Referrals from your own finance team: accountants tend to know who is good, and referral quality in finance is unusually high
  • Specialist finance recruiters: worth it for senior or newly qualified hires in tight markets

Screen for the systems you actually run and the standard you report under. An accountant strong in one ERP and reporting standard usually converts quickly to another, but the transition is not free, so decide up front how much of it you will absorb.

Structured interview

  • Walk me through the entries you post to accrue for an invoice not yet received, and what you do to reverse it.
  • A bank reconciliation is out by a round amount. What are the likely causes and how would you narrow it down?
  • How do you treat a prepayment that spans two financial years?
  • Explain the difference between the accrual and cash basis, and when each is appropriate.
  • How would you calculate and post depreciation for a mid-year asset acquisition?
  • What are the components of a full set of financial statements, and how do they tie together?
  • How do you handle a foreign currency invoice from raise to settlement, including revaluation?

Progression and salary

Accounting salaries track three things more than anything else: qualification status, the reporting standard the business uses, and company size.

  • Qualification: a completed ACCA, CPA, CA or CMA typically carries a clear premium over a part-qualified candidate at the same experience level. Budget for it, or expect to lose candidates mid-process
  • Sector: financial services and listed businesses pay above owner-managed and SME employers for comparable work
  • Scope: owning a full close and audit relationship prices differently from handling one ledger area
  • Study support: for part-qualified candidates, exam fees and study leave often decide the offer more than base salary does
