To hire a mechanical engineer in Saudi Arabia, work out the Saudi or expatriate track and the accreditation route before you advertise. Giga-projects, power and water, Aramco-linked energy work and industrial cities all need mechanical engineers, and the pool is split between three regions with different employers. For expatriates, Saudi Council of Engineers registration and the Iqama set the pace.
Demand comes from national energy and petrochemical groups, utilities, giga-project developers, contractors and consultants, and a growing facilities management sector. Saudi national engineers with design or plant experience receive multiple offers because quotas push many employers toward the same people. Experienced expatriates fill specialist roles, but employers must plan for accreditation and the Iqama from the start.
Look for design and calculation skills in the right discipline, such as HVAC, piping, rotating equipment or thermal systems, and familiarity with ASME, ASHRAE or client standards used by large Saudi owners. AutoCAD, Revit MEP, SolidWorks and simulation tools are common, and site safety and permit systems matter in energy plants. Arabic helps with ministries and mixed crews, while English is the technical working language.

Engineers practising in the Kingdom need to be registered with the Council, so plan that step for expatriate hires.
Nitaqat quotas apply, so decide whether the role is for a Saudi national or an expatriate before sourcing, because the pool and timeline differ.
Roughly four to eight weeks for local hires including notice, with relocation, accreditation and Iqama adding more for expatriates.
